Man arrested with nearly 12 kg of 'super marijuana' inside bus on highway in Pará

A man was arrested in Pará, Brazil, with nearly 12 kg of a potent cannabis strain known as 'super marijuana' during a Federal Highway Police inspection.

On Tuesday, a significant drug bust took place on the BR-230 highway in Altamira, Pará, where Federal Highway Police (PRF) arrested a man during a routine inspection aimed at combating drug and arms trafficking. During the search of the luggage, officers discovered ten packages of skunk, a cannabis derivative often referred to as 'super marijuana' for its high THC concentration and market value. The total weight of the seized drugs was approximately 11.7 kilograms.

The arrested individual, who identified himself as a native of Manaus, Amazonas, failed to disclose the final destination of the drugs or whether he was being compensated for transporting them. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling the trafficking of high-potency cannabis in Brazil, especially on major transportation routes such as the BR-230, which is known for facilitating the movement of illicit goods.

The suspect has been charged with drug trafficking and was taken to the Civil Police station in Altamira for further legal procedures. This case highlights the increasing concerns regarding cannabis trafficking in Brazil, particularly with the rise of more potent strains like skunk, which poses significant health risks due to its high THC levels and contributes to the broader issues of drug regulation and public safety.
