'Super Marijuana': more than 28 kg seized on the coast of PI after report of 'strong smell'

Authorities in Brazil seized over 28 kg of a variant of marijuana known as 'supermarijuana' following an anonymous report in Parnaíba.

In a significant drug bust on the coast of Piauí, Brazil, police seized 28.142 kg of 'supermarijuana', along with other illegal substances, during an operation triggered by reports of a strong smell of marijuana. This variant, also referred to as 'skank', has gained notoriety for its potency and is increasingly found in drug-related incidents across the region. Authorities acted swiftly to investigate the source of the odor reported by local residents, leading to the discovery in a condominium that had drawn attention due to unusual activity and movement from the occupants.

The police operation, conducted by the 2nd Battalion of the Parnaíba Military Police, involved coordination with residents who helped them gain access to the complex. Upon entering the premises, officers identified packaging materials associated with drug distribution, confirming the suspicions that brought them to the location. In addition to the large quantity of supermarijuana, authorities also uncovered 302 grams of substance likened to cocaine, various ammunition types, smaller quantities of marijuana, along with equipment typically used for drug weighing and packaging.

This incident underscores ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating drug trafficking in Brazil, particularly in coastal regions where marijuana and its stronger variants are prevalent. The strategies for handling rising drug crime rates involve not just confiscating drugs but also developing community relations to encourage reporting suspicious activities, as demonstrated by the anonymous tip leading to this operation. The arrest made during the bust highlights the proactive approach authorities are taking to address drug-related issues within their community.
