The EU will demand the withdrawal of Russian troops not only from Ukraine but also from Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, and Transnistria
The European Union outlines conditions for Russia, including troop withdrawal and political reforms, in a comprehensive document.
A document titled 'The European Core Interests in Ensuring Comprehensive, Just, and Sustainable Peace and Security on the Continent' reflects Brussels' stance on the conditions that Moscow must meet. Beyond demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from its neighboring countries, the EU insists on reparations, demilitarization of occupied territories in Ukraine, non-recognition of these territories 'de jure', and a halt to Russia's hybrid attacks directed against Europe.
Furthermore, one section of the document discusses internal political changes within Russia, where the European Union calls for free and fair elections with the presence of international observers. It also demands the release of political prisoners, the repeal of the 'foreign agents' law, and cooperation in investigations into the murders of opposition figures Alexei Navalny and Boris Nemtsov.
The EU's demands are expected to be discussed at the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from EU member states scheduled for February 23. These conditions highlight the EU's broader efforts to hold Russia accountable for its actions and advocate for democratic reforms within the country, indicating a sustained confrontation with Moscow and an ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine and its allies.
