EU foreign policy chief: EU preparing list of concessions Russia must make
The EU's foreign policy chief plans to propose a list of concessions for Russia as conditions for ending the war in Ukraine.
Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has announced her intention to propose a list of concessions that Europe will demand from Russia in any future agreement aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that the conditions for peace are directed towards Russia rather than placing undue pressure on Ukraine, which has already experienced significant hardships due to the conflict.
Kallas highlighted the necessity for all parties involved in the negotiations, including Russia and the United States, to recognize the requirement for European agreement on any peace terms. Her forthcoming proposal is expected to present specific conditions that the EU believes are essential, such as the return of unlawfully taken Ukrainian children by Russia and stipulations concerning the limitations of Russia's military capabilities post-conflict.
The proposal will be submitted to the governments of EU member states in the near future, indicating a strategic move by the EU to consolidate its stance and ensure that any resolution to the conflict includes definitive terms that hold Russia accountable. This initiative reflects a broader commitment by Europe to advocate for a responsible and equitable approach to peace in Ukraine, underscoring that the burden of concessions should not disproportionately fall on the Ukrainian people.
