The Ministry of Rural Affairs and Agriculture has a new chancellor
The Estonian Government has appointed Triin Kõrgmaa as the new chancellor of the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Agriculture following the proposal from Minister Hendrik Johannes Terras.
The Estonian Government has officially appointed Triin Kõrgmaa as the new chancellor of the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Agriculture, a decision made on the proposal of Minister Hendrik Johannes Terras. Kõrgmaa will serve a five-year term starting from February 19, and previously held the position of deputy chancellor for food safety within the same ministry since June 5, 2025. Her responsibilities as chancellor will commence on December 20, 2025, in line with public service regulations.
Triin Kõrgmaa's appointment comes after the government relieved the former chancellor Marko Gorban of his duties at the end of last year at the request of Minister Terras. Gorban had been a part of the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Agriculture since 2003 and had served as chancellor from September 1, 2022. The decision on the new appointment was made after considering recommendations from the high-level selection committee, confirming a structured process in the leadership transitions within the government.
Under the public service law, the chancellor's basic salary will be set at 90% of the minister's basic salary, amounting to €6,894.99. This context highlights the importance of leadership stability within Estonia’s Ministry of Rural Affairs and Agriculture, especially as it continues to deal with significant agricultural and rural development challenges in the region.
