The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture Gets a New Chancellor

The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture in Estonia will appoint Triin Kõrgmaa as its new chancellor following a government proposal.

The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture in Estonia is set to appoint Triin Kõrgmaa as its new chancellor, as announced by Minister Hendrik Johannes Terras, who will present the proposal to the government on Thursday. If approved, Kõrgmaa will hold the position for a term of five years starting from February 19. She has served as the Deputy Chancellor for Food Safety within the ministry since June 5, 2025, and her official responsibilities as chancellor will commence on December 20, 2025.

According to information from the government, the chancellor's salary will amount to 90% of the salary received by the minister, approximately around €6,894.99. The government will make the appointment based on the minister's proposal and after hearing the opinion of the executive leadership selection committee. This move marks a significant transition in the ministry, which is pivotal in shaping agricultural policy and practice in Estonia.

The previous chancellor, Marko Gorban, was released from his position at the end of last year upon the minister's request. Gorban had been with the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture since 2003, reflecting a significant change in leadership and possibly a shift in the ministry's strategic direction going forward. The new appointment indicates an ongoing evolution within the ministry, highlighting its commitment to addressing future challenges in sectoral governance and policy implementation.
