Foundation unveils free cervical, prostate cancer screening in A’Ibom
OncoBridge Foundation has launched free cervical and prostate cancer screenings in Akwa Ibom State for residents as part of World Cancer Day 2026 activities.
OncoBridge Foundation, in partnership with the International Cancer Centre in Abuja, has initiated free screening for cervical and prostate cancer targeting 70 men and 70 women in various rural communities of Akwa Ibom State. This program is aligned with activities commemorating World Cancer Day 2026, held under the theme "United by Unique". The event underscores the ongoing commitment to addressing and reducing the burden of cancer through accessible healthcare intervention in underserved regions.
In addition to the screenings, the foundation hosted various educational events including a World Cancer Symposium entitled "United By Unique: People-Centred Cancer Care In A Diverse Community". This symposium focused on the importance of tailored cancer care that acknowledges the unique needs of diverse populations. Furthermore, the launch of the SCREEN360 Nigeria project highlights an important shift towards comprehensive cancer care, involving preventive measures and public awareness campaigns that aim to inform and educate community members about cancer risks and prevention.
The program culminated in a sensitization program and public lecture held at Ibom Multi-Speciality Hospital in Uyo, which served to further educate participants about cancer prevention and the available healthcare resources. Overall, these initiatives not only promote awareness and early detection of cancers but also reflect the growing recognition of the need for localized healthcare solutions in combating cancer in Nigeria’s rural communities.
