The International Cancer Centre Abuja collaborated with the OncoBridge Foundation to celebrate World Cancer Day through a two-day community awareness campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This initiative included free cancer screenings for 140 residents and aimed to increase awareness about the critical aspects of cancer prevention and detection. The activities took place on February 6 and 7, which featured an outreach event at the Urua Akpan Andem Market, where medical teams educated attendees on cancer risk factors and the signs to watch for, emphasizing the importance of timely testing.

The outreach promoted awareness beyond traditional clinical environments, directly engaging the local community in discussions about cancer prevention. Focused on practical education, the campaign's key activities included informative sessions and hands-on demonstrations, significantly enhancing the public's understanding of cancer-related health issues. This comprehensive strategy highlights the commitment of health organizations in Nigeria to foster a more informed public about cancer risks and the necessity of proactive health measures.

Furthermore, at the Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital, the initiative provided free cervical cancer screenings to 70 women and prostate cancer screenings to 70 men, demonstrating a targeted approach to addressing gender-specific cancer risks. By facilitating these free services, the program not only aimed to reduce barriers to screening but also to instill a sense of urgency for health monitoring among community members. This event showcases ongoing efforts to integrate cancer education into everyday community life in Nigeria, promoting a culture of health awareness and preventive care.
