Animal welfare initiatives reported that a dog seen in a video being abused has been taken and placed into temporary care. The news portal Lrytas contacted Ieva Petrulevičienė, the Head of the Communications Division of the Marijampolė County Police Headquarters, who provided further information about the incident and the person allegedly involved in the animal cruelty. According to her, the police received a report from a resident through the ePolicija.lt platform, which included video evidence. The officers quickly contacted the informant to clarify that she might know the man depicted in the video, leading to the identification of the suspect in short order.
The next day, it was decided to transfer the dog to temporary care at an animal shelter located in the Marijampolė municipality – VšĮ ‘Mindraja.’ The man suspected of the abuse, born in 1960, was previously unknown to the police. A representative from VšĮ ‘Mindraja’ affirmed that the dog, a young mixed breed approximately 8-10 months old, did not have a microchip, highlighting potential issues in pet identification and accountability.
