Civil Police concludes inquiry into mistreatment of dog in Suzano after video

The Civil Police of Brazil has completed its investigation into a case of dog mistreatment in Suzano, based on video evidence of the incident.

The Civil Police of Brazil has concluded an inquiry regarding an incident of dog mistreatment that occurred in Suzano. The event took place on March 14, when a man was filmed violently attacking a dog with a wooden stick near the entrance of a train station operated by the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM). The shocking video captured the man approaching the dog, which was resting in the shade, before striking it on the back with such force that the stick broke upon impact.

Following the incident, the Suzano City Hall notified both the CPTM and the Civil Police, prompting an official investigation to identify the perpetrator of the attack. While the CPTM stated that they had not received any complaints about this incident, they offered their assistance to the police in order to resolve the case. The Civil Police characterized the man's actions as animal mistreatment, falling under the jurisdiction of Article 32 of Law No. 9,605/98, which addresses environmental crimes in Brazil.

This incident highlights not only the issue of animal cruelty in urban environments but also the role of video evidence in facilitating justice. The response from local authorities, including the prompt action by the city’s police and communication with the CPTM, demonstrates a commitment to addressing animal welfare concerns. As awareness around animal rights increases, such cases draw significant attention and prompt discussions regarding legislative reforms and public responsibility towards animal protection.
