Daegu City will host 'Daegu Citizens' Week' from February 21 to 28 to celebrate and promote the spirit of the National Debt Compensation Movement and the 2·28 Democracy Movement.
Daegu City has announced the upcoming '2026 Daegu Citizens' Week,' which will take place from February 21 to 28, aimed at spreading the proud spirit of the National Debt Compensation Movement and the 2·28 Democracy Movement. This week is significant as it includes February 21, which is both the anniversary of the National Debt Compensation Movement and Daegu Citizens' Day, alongside February 28, which commemorates the 2·28 Democracy Movement as a national holiday. The theme for this year's event is 'Opening Tomorrow Together, Daegu is Running Again!'.
During Daegu Citizens' Week, various events will highlight the history and values of Daegu's independence and democratic movements. Notable activities include a commemorative ceremony on February 21 at the Daegu Opera House and a forum on the establishment of the Daegu Independence Memorial Hall at the Anti-Japanese Independence Movement Experience Learning Center on February 23. Special exhibitions will also be held, including a children's exhibition on the 2·28 Democracy Movement at the Daegu Children's World and a special exhibition of original documents for the UNESCO World Document Heritage designation at the National Debt Compensation Movement Memorial Hall.
In addition to cultural and educational activities, citizens can enjoy various discounts during the week, including free admission to the Daegu Art Museum, Daegu Children's World, and the National Daegu Science Museum. Local businesses are also participating by offering special discounts and promotions.
