Kilometric Queues: Drone Shows Congested Road Following Carnival in SP; VIDEO

Drivers heading to São Paulo are facing traffic jams on the Anchieta-Imigrantes road system after returning from Carnival holidays.

On Ash Wednesday, drivers returning from Carnival festivities are experiencing significant traffic congestion on the Anchieta-Imigrantes road system in Brazil. A drone captured aerial footage showing slow-moving vehicles on the Cunego Domenico Rangoni Highway, specifically from kilometers 1 to 4 and 248 to 253 towards São Paulo, as well as from 253 to 256 towards Guarujá. The traffic issues were reported by the concessionaire Ecovias Imigrantes, which noted that the delays are partly due to accidents, although no specific details were provided about these incidents.

According to Ecovias, congestion was also reported on the Imigrantes Highway, particularly between kilometers 50 to 56 towards São Paulo, caused primarily by a high volume of returning travelers. The drone footage, emphasizing the scale of the traffic, illustrates the challenges faced by those heading back to the city after the holiday period. With the typical seasonal influx of vehicles on these highways, many drivers must navigate through extended delays as they try to return home after a busy Carnival.

The Anchieta-Imigrantes system remains under normal operation (5x5), with southbound traffic being routed via the southern lane of the Anchieta highway. This situation highlights the recurring challenges in managing the increased vehicle flow during holiday seasons in Brazil, particularly after significant events like Carnival, where external factors like accidents and high traveler volume combine to create extensive traffic jams.
