Cyber Fraud Scheme Linked to China Exposed! Three Arrested Including a Woman from Nagaland
A significant cyber fraud network has been uncovered in Gurugram, India, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including a woman from Nagaland, who provided calling support to Chinese cyber criminals.
The Gurugram policeโs cyber crime unit has successfully uncovered a large cyber fraud network, arresting three individuals, one of whom is a woman from Nagaland. This operation was conducted in cooperation with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The arrested suspects were actively involved in providing calling support to cyber fraudsters based in China, utilizing sophisticated technology to perpetrate their crimes.
As per the police spokesperson Ashok Kumar, the suspects were found operating an illegal parallel telephone exchange from a rented apartment in Sector 28, Gurugram. This setup employed a virtual SIM box to convert international VOIP calls into local calls, allowing cyber criminals overseas to target and defraud Indian citizens. The undercover investigation provided critical insights into how these fraudsters were able to communicate with their victims while masking their true origins.
The investigation revealed that the fraudsters utilized a unique method of setting up their operations, which involved linking the virtual SIM box to Wi-Fi, making calls from abroad appear as if they were local. This fraudulent operation highlights the ongoing challenge of cybercrime in India, particularly involving international networks. This incident is a stark reminder of the need for heightened awareness and cybersecurity measures among the public to prevent falling victim to such scams.
