False Promises of Fixed Returns and Fraud of 2 Crores... This is how the Delhi Police caught 'Bunty-Babli'

A couple in Delhi defrauded 48 investors out of around 2 crores under the guise of a faulty committee scheme, leading to their arrest by the police.

A significant fraud has emerged in Delhi, where a couple, identified as Chandra Deep Chamoli and his wife Sarita Chamoli, deceived 48 investors out of approximately 2 crores by promoting a scheme dubbed as a 'committee scheme'. The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police arrested the couple after numerous complaints were lodged, especially by an investor named Kuldeep Singh, highlighting the couple's fraudulent activities that began when they lured people with the promise of high and guaranteed returns.

The couple started by instilling trust among their investors through initial small payments, which encouraged more significant investments over time. They set up an office in the Indrapuri area and operated multiple schemes since 2013-14, claiming to have more than 52 committees running, some of which were maturing. However, they failed to return the principal amounts or any promised profits. This deceitful practice went unchecked until last year when they abruptly closed their office and disappeared without fulfilling their financial obligations.

The investigation into this case sheds light on the vulnerabilities in investment schemes, particularly in the realms where gullible investors seek beneficial returns. The arrest of the Chamolis highlights the efforts of the Delhi police in curtailing economic fraud and raises awareness for potential investors about the risks involved in such schemes, urging them to be cautious and conduct thorough due diligence before investing their money.
