The Flag Bearers of Latvia at the Paralympic Games Announced, Including Representatives from Russia
Latvia has announced its flag bearers for the Milan and Cortina Paralympic Games, featuring mixed pairs curling players Polina Rožkova and Agris Lasmans.
The Latvian Paralympic Committee has announced that the flag bearers for their delegation at the upcoming Milan and Cortina Paralympic Games will be Polina Rožkova and Agris Lasmans, who are both members of the mixed pairs wheelchair curling team. Rožkova stands out as the only Latvian athlete to have competed in both summer and winter Paralympic Games, having previously participated in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and the 2022 Beijing Games. This marks her third appearance at the Paralympics, and it will be her second time carrying the Latvian flag during the opening ceremony.
Agris Lasmans, also a member of the mixed pairs curling team, will be competing in his second Winter Paralympic Games, having made his debut four years ago in Beijing. In a significant achievement this year, he and his partner Rožkova secured the first-ever gold medal for Latvia in mixed pairs wheelchair curling at the world championship, highlighting their growing prowess in this sport. This accomplishment brings additional excitement and pride as they prepare for the upcoming games.
While both athletes express joy about participating in the event, they also recognize the competitive nature of the games, with only eight teams competing. Each match will be critical, and the excitement and nerves as they step onto the global stage reflect the high stakes they face. The presence of representatives from Russia in the Games also brings a unique context and consideration to this international event, highlighting the complex nature of sports diplomacy today.
