Salvador enters the record books after reaching a world record for recycling cans

The city of Salvador has achieved a Guinness World Record for recycling aluminum cans during the Carnival, collecting 46 tons in one week.

Salvador, Brazil, has officially entered the Guinness World Records after achieving a remarkable milestone in recycling. During the recent Carnival celebrations, the city collected an impressive 46 tons of aluminum cans for recycling, which is five times more than the previous record held by Rio de Janeiro, which stood at around 5 tons. This achievement was recognized on the 17th when the Guinness World Records certificate was presented to the city's mayor, Bruno Reis.

The event represents not only a significant environmental accomplishment but also showcases Salvador's commitment to sustainability. The collection effort highlights the effectiveness of community engagement during local festivals, which can transform celebrations into opportunities for environmental stewardship. The successful recycling initiative coincided with the festivities of Carnival, turning the event into a platform for raising awareness about recycling and waste reduction.

This achievement is not the first for Salvador during Carnival, as the city previously garnered recognition for hosting the largest trio elΓ©trico (a type of large sound truck) in 2025. The newfound title of world record holder for recycling cans reinforces Salvador's reputation as a vibrant and socially responsible city, eager to leverage its cultural events to promote positive ecological practices and set a precedent for environmental initiatives in other urban centers.
