Bondare finishes 43rd in slalom, Ģērmane fails to finish
Latvian skier Liene Bondare secured the 43rd position in the slalom event, while fellow competitor Ģērmane did not finish the race.
In an intense slalom competition, Latvian skier Liene Bondare achieved the 43rd position, climbing ten spots in her second run. She finished the race 13.15 seconds behind the winner, Mikaela Shiffrin from the USA, who marked a triumphant return to slalom after a twelve-year break. Bondare demonstrated significant improvement, having completed her second run in 53.95 seconds, ultimately finishing in 53rd place after the first run.
The event saw other hopes for Latvia dashed when skier Ģērmane, who started with the 17th bib number, failed to complete her run after missing a gate early on. As an Olympic debutante, this setback was particularly disappointing, especially given the heightened expectations surrounding her performance. Despite this, both athletes showcased commendable spirit and dedication.
Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the competition, reaffirming her status as a favorite with a remarkable first run. Her victory not only highlights her skill but also emphasizes the competitive nature of international skiing events. This slalom marks an important moment for both Latvian skiers, as they continue to build their competitive profiles on the world stage.
