Apologize, Ex-Wife, and We Will Withdraw the Case - Says Kumar Sanu, Court Has Given This Order

Playback singer Kumar Sanu is involved in a legal dispute with his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya over defamation claims, with the Bombay High Court suggesting a public apology could resolve the matter.

Kumar Sanu, a famous playback singer in Bollywood, is currently embroiled in a defamation dispute with his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya. Recently, the Bombay High Court held a hearing concerning Sanu's defamation claim worth ₹50 crore against Bhattacharya, which pertains to statements she made during interviews on social media platforms about their marriage and his behavior. Sanu has asserted that her comments were damaging to his reputation, warranting the legal action.

During the court proceedings, Justice Milind Jadhav's bench instructed both parties to clarify the terms under which an apology could be issued. Rita expressed her willingness to make a public apology for her alleged defamatory statements and suggested resolving the matter through mediation. The context of the defamation stems from interviews she conducted in September 2025, where she discussed aspects of their marriage that Sanu felt were detrimental to his image.

Moreover, Sanu's lawyer, Sana Rais Khan, informed the court that Sanu is amenable to dismissing the case, contingent on Rita issuing a clear public apology and making an explicit statement in front of the media. This scenario highlights the judicial encouragement for conflict resolution outside the courtroom, potentially alleviating the situation between the two parties if an agreement is reached regarding the apology and the terms of its issuance.
