J. Pranevičius is proposed to be appointed as Lithuania's ambassador to the UN
J. Pranevičius is set to replace Rytis Paulauskas as Lithuania's ambassador to the UN, starting April 10.
The Lithuanian government has nominated J. Pranevičius to take over as the country's ambassador to the United Nations, following the dismissal of Rytis Paulauskas from the position. Pranevičius is expected to officially assume the role on April 10, while Paulauskas' effective removal from the post will be on April 9.
Before this appointment, J. Pranevičius served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs until October of the previous year, overseeing key areas such as security policy, transatlantic relations, and diplomatic ties with India and Pacific nations. His extensive experience in these domains is expected to enhance Lithuania's engagement at the UN level, especially on security and international cooperation matters.
The status of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, which Pranevičius will hold, is the highest diplomatic rank in Lithuania. This appointment not only reflects the government's trust in his capabilities but also emphasizes Lithuania's commitment to active participation in international diplomacy, particularly within the framework of the United Nations.
