The cost of snow removal on state roads amounted to 1.17 million euros
The cost for clearing snow from state roads in Latvia on February 13 and 14 totaled 1.17 million euros, as reported by the State Joint Stock Company 'Latvijas valsts ceļi' (LVC).
On February 13 and 14, Latvia experienced significant snowfall that led to a total expenditure of 1.17 million euros for snow removal operations across the state road network. The State Joint Stock Company 'Latvijas valsts ceļi' (LVC) reported that on the first day of snowfall, 645,015 euros was spent on maintaining the national road network, which included snow management during periods of heavy snow across the country.
The following day, February 14, saw a reduction in precipitation, allowing maintenance operations to focus on lower traffic routes and less critical roadways. The snow clearing costs continued, amounting to 528,016 euros, which demonstrates the ongoing commitment to ensure road safety and accessibility for Latvian citizens.
On both days, major road clearance costs amounted to 292,538 euros, while costs incurred for regional and local roads totaled 555,412 euros and 325,082 euros respectively. The situation highlights the financial impact of extreme weather on national resources, as LVC emphasized the extraordinary weather conditions that necessitated these substantial expenditures, further underscoring the importance of efficient winter maintenance strategies in road management.
