Vilnius sends humanitarian aid to Kyiv β will help ensure heating and electricity
The municipality of Vilnius is providing humanitarian aid to Kyiv, including generators and mobile heating units, to help restore electricity and heating in the city.
The municipality of Vilnius, in collaboration with AB "Miesto gijos," is sending humanitarian aid to Kyiv, consisting of generators, spare parts, and a mobile boiler. Mayor Valdas Benkunskas emphasized the need to support the people of Kyiv, especially students suffering in cold schools and families facing power outages. He pledged that assistance would continue until victory is achieved in Ukraine's struggle against the ongoing crisis.
Kyiv's energy infrastructure has been severely damaged due to repeated attacks, leaving its district heating plants unable to produce electricity. The restoration of heating supply in various districts has been a staggered process, reflecting the critical condition of the city's energy system. With the municipal company "Kyivteploenergo" having exhausted its reserves of equipment and spare parts, the aid from Vilnius is both timely and essential to ensure basic energy needs are met.
This initiative not only underscores the humanitarian solidarity between Lithuania and Ukraine but also highlights the challenging energy situation in Kyiv. Continued support from cities like Vilnius is crucial as Ukraine faces winter and the associated hardships, reminding the international community of the ongoing need for assistance in rebuilding and restoring essential services in the war-affected areas.
