The Old Market Square in Klaipėda Will Be Reconstructed: Revealed How Many Millions It Will Cost

Klaipėda is set to undergo a significant reconstruction of its Old Market Square, costing millions and expected to enhance its appeal as a public space.

The Klaipėda municipality has announced plans to reconstruct the Old Market Square, a site of historical significance and local nostalgia, in a project expected to take 18 months. Klaipėda's mayor, Arvydas Vaitkus, expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its importance for families, seniors, and visitors. The goal is to transform the square by relocating commercial stalls and turning the current parking space into an attractive public area.

During the reconstruction, the square will receive new surface paving, modern lighting installations, and architectural features. Additionally, new green areas will be created, alongside renovations to the surrounding streets and sidewalks, including Šaltkalvių, Aukštosios, Bružės, Skerdėjų, and Turgaus squares. This initiative aims to not only beautify the area but also preserve its historical essence, as the Frydricho market square has been a key part of Klaipėda's old town since the 17th century.

This reconstruction project reflects a broader commitment by the municipality to upgrade public spaces and enhance the overall quality of life in Klaipėda. It caters to the community's needs while aiming to attract more visitors, thereby potentially boosting local commerce and tourism in the long run. As such, this project holds great significance for both residents and the city’s future development.
