We Are Mexico seeks to ‘recover democracy and freedoms’, assures Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo
Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, a leader of Somos México, expressed confidence in the organization's objective to gain political party registration to restore democracy and freedoms in Mexico.
Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, a prominent figure within the organization Somos México, stated that their goal is to achieve political registration to fight for the recovery of democracy and freedoms that have diminished under the current Morena government. During an appearance on El Financiero TV’s program EntreDichos, he emphasized the importance of separating Morena from state functions as a part of their mission, paralleling past efforts to extricate the PRI from state roles. Additionally, he articulated the need to distance organized crime from the functions of the state, highlighting the urgency for a radically democratic position in Mexico's political landscape.
Acosta Naranjo pointed out that with 350,000 registered affiliates, more than the 100,000 required by the National Electoral Institute (INE), there should be no reason for the INE to deny Somos México's application for party registration. He voiced concerns regarding the INE's reliability, indicating a lack of full confidence in the electoral authority, and expressed a somewhat greater trust in the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), although he remains cautious about their role as well.
His remarks come at a pivotal time when political alliances are being scrutinized in Mexico, as public sentiment shifts towards accountability and transparency in governance. The efforts of Somos México align with a broader movement advocating for democratic reforms, addressing recurrent issues around electoral integrity and the influence of crime on politics, underscoring the significant challenges facing Mexican democracy today.
