Pink Tide 'advances' towards 2030: Somos México reaches affiliates and assemblies to become a political party
The organization Somos México has met the minimum requirements to register as a political party ahead of the 2027 elections in Mexico.
Somos México, a political and citizen organization that emerged from the Pink Tide movement, has celebrated reaching the necessary number of assemblies and affiliates to formally register as a political party. This significant milestone comes as they prepare for the upcoming 2027 elections in Mexico. The organization publicly announced that it has counted over 256,000 affiliates and convened 231 district assemblies, exceeding the 200 required assemblies for registration.
The group's achievement is framed within the context of a broader political strategy as they aim to further solidify their presence and influence in Mexican politics. Notably, the organization originated from support for presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez in the 2024 elections, showcasing a grassroots movement fueled by citizen engagement. The leadership claimed that with the requirements met, it is unlikely that the electoral authority (INE) will deny their registration, emphasizing the popular mandate from their supporters.
Looking ahead, Somos México aims to register an additional 100,000 affiliates to reinforce their political position and strengthen their bid for the 2027 elections. Their progress highlights a significant shift in the political landscape in Mexico, reflecting not just the ambitions of the organization, but also the active participation and organization of citizens across the country. As the political climate evolves, the implications of their campaign and voter mobilization will be critical in shaping Mexico's future electoral dynamics.
