At least 5 killed, 30 injured in Russian attacks on Ukraine over past day
Russian attacks over the past day have resulted in at least five deaths and 30 injuries across various regions of Ukraine.
In a series of attacks reported on February 18, local authorities in Ukraine confirmed that Russian military actions have resulted in at least five deaths and injuries to 30 others. The Russian offensive included the launch of an Iskander-M ballistic missile and a significant number of drones, with reports indicating that a total of 126 drones were deployed overnight. Ukrainian air defenses were effective in intercepting 100 of these drones, but unfortunately, some managed to breach defenses, leading to damage in 14 locations and debris falling in three others.
Specific details from various regions highlight the devastating impact of these assaults. In Donetsk Oblast, three individuals lost their lives and two were injured due to a direct strike in the town of Mykolaivka. Similarly, in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, a separate attack resulted in one death and seven injuries, while a report from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast confirmed the death of a 54-year-old man due to shelling in the Nikopol district. Further west, the regional center of Sumy was also targeted, leading to 11 injuries from a drone strike, exacerbating the dire situation faced by civilian populations amid ongoing hostilities.
The continuous barrage of Russian attacks underscores the volatility of the conflict and its expanding toll on civilians. As the situation develops, local authorities and military officials continue to assess the damage and provide support to those affected while bracing for potential further escalations. The resilience of the Ukrainian air defense systems is evident, yet the ongoing risks presented by missile and drone strikes remain a significant concern for public safety throughout the impacted regions.
