Media: The Ministry of National Defence Announced a Tender for the Expertise of the Road to the Rūdninkai Polygon

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has launched a tender to assess the condition of the road leading to the Rūdninkai military polygon due to previously identified defects.

In late January of this year, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence (KAM) announced a public tender aimed at finding experts who will evaluate the condition of the road leading to the Rūdninkai polygon. The primary goal of this expertise is to identify any construction deficiencies and to ascertain the existing condition of the road. Depending on the findings of the evaluation, there will be a decision on whether to repair the questionable road or reconstruct it entirely. The ministry emphasized the importance of assessing not just localized damage but the entire structure of the road.

The KAM specified that the expertise would involve a thorough analysis of defects across the entire road network, including areas with visible surface damage. Based on the results of this assessment, appropriate solutions for rectifying the identified defects will be recommended, and a project for addressing these issues will be developed. Following the expertise, there will be oversight for the execution of the proposed defect rectification project, ensuring that the road meets required standards for military logistics.

Regarding the value of the public procurement, KAM did not disclose specific figures but did indicate that the costs associated with the expertise and subsequent remediation work will be covered by a company named 'Fegda'. This announcement comes in light of previously recognized defects along the road that were noted shortly after its completion in 2023, yet KAM has not insisted on a complete overhaul by Fegda, highlighting an ongoing concern about road quality for military use.
