Called to the cabin to be given a seat, then raped... TTE committed rape on a young woman in a moving train
An incident of rape aboard the Gorakhpur-Ahmedabad Express has led to a reward being announced for the arrest of a fugitive TTE, who is accused of sexual assault against a young NCC cadet.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a train ticket examiner (TTE) named Rahul Kumar, who is accused of raping a young NCC cadet aboard the Gorakhpur-Ahmedabad Express. The incident allegedly took place when the victim, who was returning from an exam in Mau and could not secure a ticket due to overcrowding, was lured into the TTE's cabin under the pretense of being given a seat. Following the assault, the accused fled and is currently at large, prompting authorities to declare a reward of 10,000 rupees for information leading to his capture.
The case has been reported to the police by the victim, leading to a formal complaint and subsequent investigation. The Superintendent of Railway Police, Lakshmi Niwas Mishra, noted that an internal letter has been dispatched to initiate the dismissal process for Kumar from his position in the Northern Eastern Railway's Varanasi division. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of passengers, especially women traveling alone on trains, highlighting the urgent need for corrective measures and stricter safety protocols in the railway system.
The TTE's alleged actions have triggered outrage, with calls for accountability and justice for the victim. This case adds to the growing list of incidents involving sexual violence against women in public transport systems in India, prompting discussions around systemic flaws and the necessity for reforms to ensure comprehensive safety for all passengers, particularly vulnerable individuals such as young women and students.
