HS poll: Support for the National Coalition is the lowest of the government term – Here's how other parties performed

A recent poll shows the National Coalition Party's support has dropped to 17.9%, marking the lowest point since Prime Minister Petteri Orpo took office, while the Social Democrats continue to lead with a rise to 25.1%.

The latest poll conducted by Helsingin Sanomat reveals significant shifts in the Finnish political landscape as the National Coalition Party, led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, has seen its support drop to 17.9%. This is reported as the lowest approval rating for Orpo's administration during its term. In contrast, the Social Democrats (SDP) have gained ground, achieving a support level of 25.1%, solidifying their position as the most popular party in Finland. Additionally, the Left Alliance achieved a historic high of 10.4% in the same poll, highlighting shifting voter preferences.

Moreover, the poll indicates that the support for the True Finns, another significant party in the coalition government, has decreased by 0.4 percentage points, now standing at exactly 13%. As a collective, the governing parties' combined support has seen a slight decline since January, currently at 38.2%. This reflects an ongoing trend in Finnish politics where public sentiment appears to be veering away from the current administration, raising questions about the stability and efficacy of the coalition government.

The polling data, which surveyed 4,072 individuals between January 20 and February 16, 2026, has a margin of error of approximately 1.5 percentage points. Notably, the results showcase not only the fluctuating dynamics among Finland's political parties but also the increased engagement from the electorate, as parties like the SDP and Left Alliance capitalize on their rising popularity amidst discontent with the government's performance. As these trends continue, they may significantly impact upcoming elections and policy-making in Finland.
