New payment method introduced at K-stores
K-Citymarket in Vantaa has launched a mobile scanning payment option for customers using the K-Ruoka app.
K-Citymarket in Vantaa, Finland, has rolled out a new mobile scanning payment method allowing customers to scan their groceries using the K-Ruoka application. This initiative, piloted since February 16, enables shoppers to use their smartphone cameras to scan barcodes of products, packing their groceries into bags before making payments either at a traditional checkout or through a self-service terminal. According to Minna Vakkilainen, a director responsible for customer information and e-commerce at Kesko, this mobile scanning feature is a significant step towards streamlining the shopping experience.
The pilot program currently restricts the use of the barcode scanner to all store items, except for those labeled with red discount tags, while ensuring that customers still accumulate the same loyalty points from the Plussa program. Additionally, customers can also scan age-restricted items, such as alcohol, but must complete the purchase process with a cashier. This development reflects retail innovation aimed at enhancing convenience for shoppers and keeping pace with digital trends in consumer behavior.
Overall, the introduction of mobile scanning at K-Citymarket signifies Kesko's commitment to embracing technological advancements in retail and improving customer experience. As this service becomes more widespread, it may set a precedent for other retailers in Finland and across the Nordics to explore similar digital solutions, thereby reshaping the future of grocery shopping in the region.
