Commander of the vessel that sank in the Amazon remains at large after arrest decree

The commander of the passenger vessel Lima de Abreu XV is currently at large following a court-ordered arrest following a tragic sinking incident in Manaus that resulted in three fatalities and five missing persons.

Pedro José da Silva Gama, the 43-year-old commander of the passenger boat Lima de Abreu XV, is evading authorities after a preventive arrest warrant was issued by the Justice of Amazonas. The vessel sank in the Amazon on Friday, killing three individuals and leaving five others missing. The tragic incident occurred at the Encontro das Águas region in Manaus while the boat was transporting passengers to Nova Olinda do Norte.

Onboard were 80 passengers, of whom 71 were successfully rescued without serious injuries. The deceased, identified as gospel singer Fernando Grandêz, has brought the confirmed death toll to three, while the search continues for five missing individuals.
