The commander of the vessel Lima de Abreu XV, which sank in the Encontro das Águas area of Manaus, Brazil, was taken into custody by authorities following the incident that claimed the lives of two individuals and left seven others unaccounted for. The arrest occurred on the evening of Friday, the 13th, soon after the tragic event, which prompted a significant emergency response involving local fire services and law enforcement.

After the sinking, the commander was initially taken to the 1st Integrated Police District in central Manaus for questioning. Following the confirmation of casualties, he was subsequently transferred to the Specialized Homicide and Kidnapping Division for further investigation. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the commander or the specific charges he may face, as inquiries into the circumstances that led to the accident are ongoing.

The shipwreck occurred shortly after 12:30 PM, and footage released by Rede Amazônica depicted passengers struggling in the water after the vessel capsized. Local rescue efforts managed to save 71 individuals, who reportedly escaped serious injuries. However, the tragedy raised concerns over maritime safety in the region, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight in such critical sectors of transportation.
