Negotiations on Raising the Minimum Wage for Cultural Workers Continue in April

Negotiations concerning the increase of minimum wage for cultural workers in Estonia are set to continue in April, aiming to raise the pay from €1720 to €2021.

Negotiations between the Estonian Trade Union Confederation (TALO) and the Ministry of Culture regarding the increase of minimum wage for cultural workers will continue in April. TALO estimates that the minimum wage for culturally educated workers should rise from the current €1720 to €2021. Maris Rosenthal, a member of TALO's board, stated that discussions will resume from where they left off last year, which had seen decisions aiming for wage increases in the current year's budget.

Last year's decisions included increasing the minimum wage for cultural workers, trainers, and collective leaders, as well as distributing funds to raise salary pools. Rosenthal emphasized that this is the point from which they will continue discussions. The union is pushing for the wage increases as well as an overall increase in the salary pool, highlighting that achieving an average salary is a goal they are striving for during negotiations.

The emphasis on increasing the minimum wage reflects a broader issue of compensation and recognition for cultural workers in Estonia. With the proposed increase, TALO seeks to not only improve the financial situation of these workers but also to provide leaders with the resources necessary to motivate their colleagues, suggesting a long-term vision for the cultural sector's improvement and sustainability in Estonia.
