AI News Anchor Sutra Launched by India Today Group at the India AI Impact Summit
India Today Group introduced its new AI-driven news anchor, Sutra, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, in collaboration with BharatGen.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the India Today Group unveiled its latest innovation: an AI-driven news anchor named Sutra. This project was developed in partnership with BharatGen and showcased on the platform provided by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Sutra is designed to simplify complex, real-time updates related to the summit, transforming them into manageable and comprehensible content. By employing advanced technology within a robust editorial framework, Sutra aims to bridge the gap between policy-level discussions and public understanding, specifically focusing on delivering key takeaways from significant sessions of the summit.
A key element of this launch is the "AI Sandwich" model, spearheaded by Kali Puri, Vice-Chairperson and Executive Editor-in-Chief of the India Today Group. This approach treats AI as a tool rather than a decision-maker; the start of the news story is determined by a human, and the final decision also rests with a human editor. This methodology ensures that while AI serves to enhance content delivery, the essential human oversight maintains the integrity and relevance of the news provided. This model aims to provide a reliable and efficient way to communicate real-time information without losing the human touch essential for journalism.
The initiative aligns with broader trends in utilizing AI for journalism, reflecting a growing interest in how technology can enhance the speed and clarity of news dissemination. Sutra represents a significant step in leveraging AI to improve public engagement with current events, particularly in complex domains such as technology and policy discussions. As the media landscape continues to evolve, such innovations may redefine how audiences consume news, making it more accessible and informative while emphasizing the indispensable role of human editorial judgment in the process.
