Sheep and goats will take care of plants. "An element of sustainable green management"
The city of Krakow is implementing a project that allows sheep and goats to graze on urban green areas as a sustainable management strategy.
The city authorities of Krakow have decided to use sheep and goats for grazing in urban green spaces as part of their sustainable environmental management strategy. This approach is being adopted in lieu of the traditional method of mowing grass, which offers both ecological and economic benefits. The initiative aims to enhance biodiversity in urban areas while also serving as an educational tool for local residents about sustainable practices in managing green spaces.
Moreover, the project draws from successful experiences in other Polish regions that have implemented similar grazing strategies. This exchange of knowledge influences Krakow's approach, suggesting a shift towards integrating livestock into city planning. Specific areas within Krakow are earmarked for this grazing project, which is supported by European funds aimed at environmental protection, highlighting the collaborative effort towards sustainable city management.
Jan Machowski, deputy head of the project, mentioned that the city is actively seeking goat and sheep breeders interested in participating in the project. This initiative reflects Krakow’s long-standing commitment to eco-friendly solutions and addresses community interests raised during the city’s citizen budget discussions.
