In a unique initiative, Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles has introduced 500 goats into the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve. This pilot project aims to manage and reduce dense, invasive vegetation that poses a significant fire risk in the area, which has faced repeated wildfires in the past. The goats will help clear about 35 acres (approximately 14 hectares) of land, leveraging natural grazing as an environmentally friendly solution.
The decision was made in collaboration with local partners, including the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society. Mayor Bass shared insights on social media, highlighting the importance of this initiative not only for fire prevention but also as a cost-effective approach to landscape management.
