Robbery at the Clock Store in Vecrīga: Charges Filed Against Three Serbian Citizens

Three Serbian citizens have been charged in Latvia for armed robbery at a watch store in Vecrīga.

The Eastern District Prosecutor's Office in Rīga has brought charges against three Serbian nationals in connection with an armed robbery they committed at the 'Baltic Watches' store in Vecrīga last April. The charges include theft of foreign movable property in large amounts, committed by an organized group, accompanied by violence and threats of violence. Additionally, two of the accused face charges for intentional destruction and damage to foreign property, highlighting the violent nature of the crime.

Currently, a separate criminal investigation is ongoing against an individual who was not arrested in Finland. This investigation still requires the authorities to track the vehicle used in the robbery and its possible route, as there are parts of Rīga lacking surveillance cameras. This complicates the investigation, signaling the challenges law enforcement faces in assembling evidence and pursuing suspects in such armed robberies which can often involve cross-border elements, especially since the accused are Serbian nationals.

The prosecutor's office has clarified that the suspects were in Latvia legally, arriving as tourists, which may impact the legal proceedings and cooperation between Latvia and Serbia in addressing such crimes. However, there is still no information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen watches, which raises concerns regarding the effectiveness of tracking stolen goods and the international aspects of organized crime.
