Million robbery against watch dealer triggers five and a half years in prison
Two men from Montenegro have been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for robbing a watch dealer in Aarhus, Denmark.
Two men from Montenegro have been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for their involvement in a violent robbery against a watch dealer in Aarhus on May 23 of the previous year. The pair was convicted after they threatened the owner of the store, named Kejser, with a handgun, while another accomplice, a man from Holland, received an additional sentence of one and a half years for handling stolen goods. The robbery, which lasted only seven and a half minutes, led to the theft of 62 luxury watches from brands such as Rolex and Omega, valued at approximately 5.6 million kroner.
During the incident, the shop owner was threatened with a pistol held under his chin, and upon the arrival of a store employee, he too was intimidated with the weapon and subsequently bound with zip ties, along with the owner. The robbers partially confessed to their involvement but claimed that their actions were impulsive and that they were merely tourists in Aarhus at the time. However, the court rejected this explanation, with the presiding judge declaring the robbery as a premeditated act of a particularly severe nature.
Video surveillance played a crucial role in securing the convictions, as it captured the events leading up to and during the robbery. The detail of the crime has raised concerns regarding the safety in retail environments dealing with high-value merchandise, prompting discussions about measures to enhance security for such businesses. With the sentences handed down, there is also an emphasis on deterring similar gang-related crimes in the future, especially in light of the increasing sophistication exhibited by organized crime groups targeting luxury goods and stores.
