The Chairman of Koko-Besse Local Government Area in Nigeria provided wheelchairs and cash support to 75 persons living with disabilities to promote inclusion and economic empowerment.
The Chairman of Koko-Besse Local Government Area, Hon. Sirajo Usman Dan Gwaggo, has made a significant contribution to the lives of 75 persons living with disabilities by donating wheelchairs and cash support during an event held at the council secretariat. This initiative, in collaboration with Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, a Jos-based NGO, aims to enhance the mobility, independence, and overall quality of life for individuals within the community who face disabilities. The event welcomed beneficiaries from all 12 wards of the local government area, highlighting the widespread need for such support.
During the presentation, Chairman Gwaggo emphasized the importance of inclusion, stating that the government serves everyone, including those with disabilities. He expressed a strong commitment to ensuring that no individual is left behind in the pursuit of societal equality. Each beneficiary not only received a wheelchair but also ₦5,000 intended to support small-scale trade initiatives and encourage self-sufficiency among persons with disabilities. This financial assistance is hoped to aid beneficiaries in starting income-generating activities, thereby fostering economic independence.
Such charitable efforts demonstrate a proactive approach from local government leaders towards addressing the challenges faced by marginalized groups. By focusing on empowering individuals with disabilities, this initiative not only aims to enhance their physical capabilities but also endeavors to restore hope and dignity, reinforcing their place in society. The emphasis on judicious utilization of the assistance is a call to action for beneficiaries to leverage this support for sustainable livelihood development.
