Edo takes anti-cultism, anti-drug abuse campaign to schools
The Edo State Government is intensifying its campaign against cultism and drug abuse by directly engaging with students in various schools across the state.
The Edo State Government is amplifying its efforts to combat cultism and drug abuse through a targeted sensitization campaign in secondary schools. Led by the Principal Security Officer to the Governor, Austin Eigbiremolen, and the Coordinator of the Edo State Special Security Squad, Idemudia Noah, officials visited several schools including Ihogbe College and Akenzua Senior Secondary School to reach students directly. This proactive approach highlights the government's recognition of schools as critical environments for early intervention against these social issues.
During the outreach, Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented by Eigbiremolen, emphasized the administration's zero-tolerance policy towards cultism and corruption. He reassured students that stringent laws have been enforced to clamp down on such activities, reinforcing the government's commitment to creating a safer educational environment. The initiative reflects a strategic shift towards youth engagement, acknowledging that young people are both potential victims and agents of change in the fight against societal vices.
Coordinator Idemudia Noah explained that the campaign initially aimed at educating the general public but was redirected to focus on schools after realizing the importance of engaging students directly. This initiative not only seeks to inform young people about the dangers of cultism and drug abuse but also aims to empower them to make informed choices. The outreach serves as a crucial step in creating awareness and fostering a culture that rejects violence and substance abuse among the youth in Edo State.
