Once Rejected as Just a PowerPoint, Port in ES Becomes a R$ 2.5 Billion Project

Imetame's port project in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, which initially faced skepticism, gains traction after the company's founder invests personal funds to begin construction.

The Imetame company, known for manufacturing and maintaining heavy industry equipment, faced rejection for its port project presented yearly at Brazil's prestigious Intermodal logistics fair. Initially dismissed as merely a PowerPoint presentation, the project lacked concrete backing and failed to attract interest from shipping companies. Undeterred, founder Etore Selvatici Cavallieri decided to initiate construction using personal funds in 2021, acquiring land in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, as a starting point.

As construction progressed, interest in the port project increased, leading to a significant partnership in December with HGT, the container arm of global shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd. This partnership is pivotal, as Hapag-Lloyd operates in 140 countries with a fleet of around 300 ships and manages multiple services across numerous ports. The injection of credibility and financial backing from such a prominent player in the shipping industry marks a turning point in the project’s journey.

With an estimated value of R$ 2.5 billion, the port is set to play a crucial role in enhancing logistics and trade capabilities in Brazil's Espírito Santo region. The successful transformation of a once-dismissed idea into a significant investment speaks volumes about innovation, perseverance, and the importance of partnerships in the logistics sector. This project not only promises economic growth for the local area but also positions Brazil as a more competitive player in global supply chains.
