Fire at the Police Headquarters: Power Bank Ignites – Three Policemen Injured

Three members of the readiness police suffered smoke inhalation injuries during a fire in their accommodation due to an igniting power bank.

On Sunday evening, three police officers from the readiness unit suffered smoke inhalation while responding to a fire at their accommodation on Rosenheimer Straße. The incident began around 19:35 when a 30-year-old officer heard the fire alarm and promptly contacted the fire department. In the meantime, two younger colleagues, aged 23, and a 34-year-old officer, chose to investigate the source of the smoke despite the dangerous conditions. Their concern for potential victims led them into the affected room, where they eventually required emergency medical attention due to their smoke inhalation.

The two 23-year-old officers were treated and released shortly afterward, while the 34-year-old remained hospitalized for further treatment. Additionally, a firefighter who was involved in the firefighting efforts sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. According to preliminary investigations, the fire investigators from the precinct suspect that the cause of the fire was a technical defect; a power bank, which was found at the scene, appeared to have ignited on its own, leading to the hazardous situation.

The incident underscores the risks first responders may face even in their own accommodations and raises concerns over safety standards regarding electronic devices like power banks. As the investigation continues, attention will likely focus not only on the cause of the fire but also on preventative measures that could be put in place to avoid similar incidents in the future, ensuring the safety of police personnel and preserving their operational readiness.
