Banks closed on this Monday (16) and Tuesday (17); service resumes on Wednesday (18)

Banks across Brazil will be closed on February 16 and 17 due to Carnival observances, with services resuming on February 18.

In Brazil, all banking agencies will be closed on Monday, February 16, and Tuesday, February 17, in observance of the Carnival holiday. Normal in-person banking services will resume on Wednesday, February 18, starting at noon. During these days, transactions that rely on bank compensation will not be processed, such as the TED (Electronic Transfer Available), while the Pix payment system will remain operational around the clock.

Clients will not incur fines for late payments on bills and consumer accounts that fall due during the closure, as they can be settled on the next business day, which is February 18. However, this flexibility does not extend to taxes and government payments, which need to be paid in advance if they are due during the holiday to avoid penalties.

The Caixa Econômica Federal bank will observe the same closure schedule as other financial institutions, being closed on Monday and Tuesday and reopening at noon on Wednesday. Digital banking channels, including the Caixa Tem app and internet banking, will continue to function during the holiday, allowing customers to access their accounts and perform some transactions online.
