Thessaloniki Metro: The extension towards Kalamaria will be delivered in the spring of 2026

The Thessaloniki Metro extension to Kalamaria, featuring five new stations, is set for completion in the spring of 2026 according to Greece's Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Greece, Christos Dimas, announced that the extension of the Thessaloniki Metro towards Kalamaria, comprising five new stations, is expected to be completed and operational by the spring of 2026. This project aims to significantly enhance public transportation in Thessaloniki, serving thousands of additional passengers daily and reducing the number of cars in the city. The announcement was made during a visit to the FlyOver construction site, where Dimas was accompanied by Deputy Minister Nikos Tachiaos and the General Secretary of the ministry, Dimitris Anagnostopoulos.

Dimas highlighted that the Thessaloniki Metro is considered one of the most modern in Europe and the world, already having contributed to a 15% reduction in car traffic in the city center based on data from the Transportation Institute. The extension not only promises to improve daily commutes for residents but also aims to foster an environmentally friendly urban transportation framework, alleviating congestion in one of Greece's busiest cities.

As the project approaches its final construction phases, the five new stations are anticipated to play a crucial role in reshaping public transport dynamics in Thessaloniki. With strict adherence to timetable projections, local authorities and the government expect that the Metro will become a key element in enhancing mobility and supporting economic development in the region.
