Public Transport Council postpones decision on chairperson election
The Public Transport Council of Latvia has postponed the election of a new chairperson due to ongoing changes in the Ministry of Transport.
The Public Transport Council (STP) in Latvia has decided to delay the decision regarding the election of a new chairperson during its meeting on Monday. The request to postpone came from Andulis Židkovs, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport. He mentioned that the ministry is undergoing changes and additional time is required to consider potential candidates for the position.
Previously, the chairperson of the Public Transport Council was Annija Novikova, who served as the director of the Public Transport Services Department within the Ministry of Transport. However, it has been reported that Novikova has ended her employment with the ministry, necessitating the election of a new chairperson. This transition reflects the ongoing shifts within the ministry and underscores the need to appoint suitable leadership for the council.
The Public Transport Council is composed of ten members, with an equal distribution of five members from planning regions and five from the state's side. The election for the chairperson must be conducted from the state's representatives, emphasizing the structured governance within Latvia's public transport oversight. As the council navigates this transitional period, the outcomes of the chairperson election will undoubtedly influence the future direction of public transportation policy in Latvia.
