Major Change in Tampere City Center's Familiar Building
A new hospital will be established in the center of Tampere by the insurance company Fennia, with a medical center scheduled to open in 2028.
The city of Tampere is set to undergo a significant transformation with the announcement of a new hospital, thanks to the insurance company Fennia. The new medical center will be opened in the Postitalo building in 2028, marking it as one of the largest facilities for Terveystalo, the healthcare provider behind the initiative. This center will feature five operating rooms, emergency services for both accidents and general medical needs, as well as specialized medical services and dental care.
Tiina Halinen, the business director responsible for the Kanta-Häme and Pirkanmaa regions, emphasized that this new facility will allow them to perform advanced surgeries including knee replacement and complex spinal surgery in Tampere. This development comes as part of broader renovations planned for the Postitalo, which were announced back in June 2025. In addition to the medical services, existing healthcare operations at Rautatienkatu will also shift to this new location, while current facilities in Lielahde and Hervanta will remain unchanged.
Importantly, local businesses like the Lidl grocery store and the Scandic hotel operating within the same building will not be affected by the renovation works. The updates are focused on the section situated between the hotel and the store, which indicates a thoughtful approach to urban development that retains the existing commercial activities while enhancing healthcare facilities in the city center.
