Nigeria and Angola have signed a significant bilateral agreement to eliminate visa requirements for diplomatic and official passport holders, a move the government representatives describe as a practical step towards enhancing bilateral relations. The agreement was signed during the 39th session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Angolan Foreign Relations Minister Téte António representing their respective countries during the signing ceremony.

Minister Tuggar remarked that the agreement, which had been anticipated for some time, would facilitate the free movement of officials between Nigeria and Angola, fostering stronger cooperation and collaboration. He expressed optimism that the exemption might eventually extend to ordinary citizens, opening new avenues for economic opportunities between the two nations and further integration within the African Union framework.

The Angolan minister highlighted Nigeria's historical role in supporting African liberation movements, acknowledging that Nigeria's solidarity during Angola's struggle against colonialism laid a strong foundation for the lasting friendship and cooperation that exists today. This agreement not only signifies a practical development in the diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Angola but also symbolizes a commitment to deeper mutual support among African nations, potentially leading to enhanced economic and political ties in the region.
