Algeria Launches Largest National Tree Planting Campaign by Planting 5 Million Seedlings in One Day
Algeria has initiated its largest national tree planting campaign, aiming to plant 5 million seedlings in a single day across all 69 provinces to enhance vegetation and protect the environment.
Over the weekend, Algeria launched its largest national tree planting initiative under the slogan "Greener by God's Will," with widespread participation from citizens and various organizations and institutions. The campaign aims to enhance the nation’s vegetation cover and protect the environmental integrity of the nation. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, the initiative, organized in collaboration with the General Directorate of Forests and the "Green Algeria" association, targets the planting of five million saplings in one day across all 69 provinces, with preparations made for an additional 5.3 million seedlings.
The official statement revealed that 71% of the seedlings are forest trees, 26% are fruit trees, and 3% are ornamental seedlings, with species selected based on the ecological and economic characteristics of each region. The campaign includes the planting of 100,000 argan trees, supporting biodiversity and the economic and ecological value of this species. Other species like carob and olive trees were also part of the initiative, which reflects Algeria's commitment to reforestation and environmental rehabilitation.
The campaign witnessed extensive participation from citizens, the military, the national gendarmerie, civil protection agencies, various bodies, and both public and private companies, demonstrating a collective effort to improve Algeria's green spaces. This significant environmental effort underscores Algeria's dedication to combating climate change and promoting a sustainable future through community involvement in ecological conservation activities.
