Uganda: UBL, NFA and Rotary Launch 80,000 Tree Restoration Project in Namananga Forest
Uganda Breweries Limited, alongside the National Forest Authority and Rotary International, has initiated a significant project to plant 80,000 trees in Namananga Forest to rejuvenate the area's ecosystem.
In a collaborative effort, Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), the National Forest Authority (NFA), and Rotary International have launched a remarkable initiative to plant 80,000 indigenous trees in the Namananga Central Forest Reserve, located in Kayunga District. This three-year project, which is part of UBL's 80th anniversary celebrations, aims to restore degraded sections of the 459-hectare forest reserve and improve the ecological health of this critical area.
The Namananga Forest plays a crucial ecological role, serving as a vital corridor that connects Mabira Forest and Musamya Swamp, while also safeguarding important water sources such as the Nalwe and Wugula streams. These waterways are essential for the sustenance of nearby communities, agriculture, and wildlife. The initiative, which comes at an investment of UGX 372 million, underscores UBL's commitment to environmental sustainability and highlights the importance of corporate responsibility in preserving natural resources in Uganda.
At the project's launch, Felicite Nson, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited, emphasized the company's long-standing dedication to environmental stewardship. As they celebrate 80 years of operations in Uganda, UBL recognizes that a healthy environment is integral to their business success and the well-being of the communities they serve. The planting of 2,000 seedlings during the event marked the beginning of this extensive restoration project, which aims to enhance the forest's biodiversity and ecological function over the coming years.
