New emergency weather bulletin: Where rain, storms, and gale-force winds are expected
Greece's National Meteorological Service has issued a new emergency weather bulletin predicting strong rains and storms across various regions.
The National Meteorological Service (EMY) of Greece has released an emergency weather bulletin due to the adverse weather conditions that have already caused issues in several areas over the past weekend. This new forecast indicates that strong rains and thunderstorms will occur intermittently on Monday, February 16, 2026, particularly affecting the regions of Lesbos and Chios in the afternoon.
The situation is expected to worsen further on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, with localized heavy rain, storms, gale-force winds, and the possibility of hail. Specifically, the areas most affected include Epirus and western Sterea up until the afternoon, western and southern Peloponnese from late morning to afternoon hours, and Crete, especially the western and southern parts, during midday and afternoon. Additionally, brief heavy rains and storms are forecasted for the Cyclades (mainly the southern islands) in the afternoon, as well as the northern and eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese from early afternoon until evening.
This forecast emphasizes the importance of taking precautions as severe weather is anticipated across much of Greece, which could lead to disruptions and potential hazards. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed and prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, to minimize impact and ensure safety during this period of instability in the climate.
