Cēsis Municipality's Budget Expenditures Will Be Slightly Higher Than Last Year

Cēsis Municipality has approved a budget with expenditures increasing by 4% over last year's, while revenues are projected to rise by 3.8%.

Cēsis Municipality in Latvia has announced that its budget for the current year will see expenditures increase by 4% compared to the previous year, as revealed in a vote by the municipality's council members. The approval came with 12 coalition members supporting the budget, while five opposition members opposed it and two abstained. One of the major points of contention raised by the opposition was the exclusion of funding for meals for senior class students during budget negotiations.

The municipality's core budget is projected to generate revenues of €96.35 million, translating to approximately €2,246 per resident. A significant portion of this revenue will come from taxes, with personal income tax accounting for 90.1% of tax revenues, and property tax contributing an additional 7%. This increase in expected revenue is indicative of an overall positive financial outlook for the municipality, albeit with concerns from opposition regarding specific allocations.

On the expenditures side, this year's budget plans for outlays of €122.67 million, equivalent to about €2,860 per resident. The funds are categorized into ten functional areas, with the education sector receiving the largest allocation, accounting for 44.5% of total expenditures at €54.56 million. This prioritization reflects a commitment to enhancing educational services within the region, though the debate over meal funding for older students highlights ongoing discussions on resource distribution in the municipality.
